arc 19018 – Stockholm@Köln

New chamber works for bassoon and piano – aren’t there enough productions of this genre? Not at all! The bassoon is a magnificent instrument which, we believe, deserves to be in focus, much more than it has been so far – at the front of the stage, and not – as is so often the case – at the back of the orchestra pit! It can create such a variety of colours, reaching from enjoyable charm to pure melancholy – especially when a real master like Berthold Große (Stockholm) is touching the instrument. Oliver Drechsel (Köln = Cologne) is Berthold’s piano partner in this recording, and he has also composed some of the recorded repertoire. Also featured: Andreas Herkenrath (Cologne) and Johan Ullén, one of the most popular Swedish composers of the younger generation.
